Description
Meant for environmental education coupled with pleasure and joy, the Scientific Center of Kuwait was established by the initiative of Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah in 1992. The Center reveals the advancement and position of Kuwait in the modern world and its function in protecting the Arabian Peninsula. It houses the largest aquarium in the Middle East.

In a landscape of 80,000 m2, the building occupies 18,000 m2 and comprises of 3 major attractions: Aquarium, Discovery Place, and IMAX theatre. In addition, the Center also houses a gift shop, cafes and restaurants, and a Dhow Harbor.
The Aquarium has 3 sections – Desert zone, Coastal zone and the Sea zone, exhibiting a variety of species collected both locally and from other parts of the world. The exquisite element of this segment is the 1.5 million litre tank which offers a dwelling for a wide variety of sharks and rays.
The Discovery place is designed especially for children to teach them about energy and innovative ways to convert it in a form and even includes about 8 animal robots.
The 250 seat IMAX theatre showcases 3D educational and documentary films in both English and Arabic.
The Dhow Harbor has the only surviving sailing ship Boom Fateh Al-Kabir (Bringer of Good Fortune) and other smaller vessels and dhows.
The Center hosts a variety of interesting shows like diving with the sharks, feeding the animals and fishes, and Starship shows.
