Winner of the Guinness Records for the world’s largest wooden boat, the majestic maritime artifact stands in its entire splendor rising high above the Radisson Blu Hotel. Though Hashemi II reflects the marine passion of the Kuwaiti ancestors, her designs and fittings include European and Indian elements inspired by her rightful owner Husain Marafie, and was completed over a period of 15 years.
Location: Beside Radisson Blu Hotel along the Arabian Gulf Road in Salwa
Features: The gigantic boat serves as a restaurant and has reception areas for weddings, conferences, seminars, meetings, etc and a grand ball room. The boat weighs around 2,500 tons and measures 19m wide and 80m long.
In front of Hashemi stands the smaller dhow Mohammadi II which was built in memory of the patriotic mariners of Kuwait.
By the side is the marine museum which preserves the history of the ancestral shipbuilding with the help of pictures of the construction of Hashemi, tools used in ship building, around 30 replicas of traditional dhows including one Viking ship, and other accessories that highlight the sea faring life and passion of old Kuwait.
The classical feature of the beach is its wooden bridge that goes a long way into the sea. Along the beach, one can also find walkways with plants, trees and shrubs. Open theatre, Barbeque area and cafeterias can also be found within the beach confines.
