RBI on 19th July announced that it will start issuing 100-rupee banknotes with new Mahatma Gandhi series, with lavender color and smaller than the current one.
The new note has the design of Rani Ki Vav (Queen’s stepwell) Gujarat, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage.
The new banknote will be 66mm×142mm, against 73mm×157mm for the existing note.
RBI said the earlier 100 Rupee note will also continue to be legal tender.
For the visually impaired, the notes will have intaglio or raised printing of the Mahatma Gandhi portrait, Ashoka Pillar emblem, raised triangular identification mark with micro-text 100, four angular bleed lines both on the right and left sides.
